11. God wants us to obey
Sermon
Let’s see what is in today’s treasure chest! Who wants to know? Remember we only open the treasure chest when everyone is sitting down quietly. Now let’s open the chest!
Take out giant plastic ears and a pair of white gloves. Put them on. Today we are learning about being obedient! God has given us our 2 ears to help us to obey, and 2 hands.
Point to the ears We obey by listening to what our moms and dads and teachers say, but we can’t just listen. Hold up your gloved hands – we have to do what we’re asked to do too.
Ask the kids to show you their ears and hands.
Let’s practice listening and doing what we’re told. If your mom tells you to eat your breakfast, what should you do?
Point to your ears and then your hands. Get the kids to mime the actions with you. Listen, and eat your food Mention other scenarios, and get the kids to mime the actions:
-Pick up your toys
-Wash your face
-Say hello to your friend etc.
When we listen to our mums and dads, we’re learning to obey God too. I want to tell you a story about someone who obeyed God.
Take pairs of animal finger puppets out of the treasure chest, and give each child a matching pair. Tell the story of Noah and the ark. Involve the kids as you tell it.
Pray for the kids. Get them to touch their ears and hold out their hands as you pray that God will help them to obey.
