7. I can talk to God

Sermon

Let’s see what is in today’s treasure chest! Who wants to know? Remember we only open the treasure chest when everyone is sitting down quietly. Now let’s open the chest!

Take out a toy microphone. Oh wow! This is awesome. Now I can talk, and lots of people can hear me.  

Give everyone who wants to a chance to say “Hello” into the microphone (sanitize it between each child). But guess what, there is someone who can hear me, even if I whisper. Who do you think that is? That’s right, Jesus! He loves it when we talk to him, and he always listens. In fact he got really cross with his friends when they tried to stop the kids from coming to talk to him. 

Pull a laminated picture of Jesus with the little children (from Matthew 19:13-15) out of the treasure chest, and tell the story. So how do we talk to Jesus when we can’t see him? We can just talk, because he is right here with us.  

Pass the microphone around again, and give each child a chance to say “Hello Jesus”

You see, it’s easy. We can tell him how we are feeling, we can ask him for the things we need, but the best thing we can do is to thank him, and tell him how much we love him.  

Try some other prayers with the kids. Pray for each child, that God will be a friend to them, and that they will develop a close relationship with Him.
