8. God wants to talk to me
Sermon
Let’s see what is in today’s treasure chest! Who wants to know? Remember we only open the treasure chest when everyone is sitting down quietly. Now let’s open the chest!
Take out a pair of headphones. Plug them into the sound system, put them on your head, start playing one of the songs they know, and ask the children if they can hear it. You can’t hear the music because it’s really quiet, and you have to listen really carefully to hear it.
Take the headphones off your head, and give each child a turn to listen – Do you know that God is speaking to us all the time, but he speaks really quietly, inside our hearts, so we have to be very quiet, and think about Jesus to hear him. I’m going to tell you a story about a little boy who heard God speak.
Take a little robe, and a blanket and cushion out of the treasure chest. Tell the story of how God spoke to Samuel from 1 Samuel 3. Dress up one of the kids, and get them to help you act it out. Isn’t it wonderful that God wants to speak to us. Let’s listen now, to what he is saying.
Get the kids to lie down and close their eyes. Ask them to imagine Jesus walking into the room and sitting down next to them. He whispers something in their ear. Get them to share what He says to them.
